With more than half the world's population under quarantine, and the majority physically distancing from one another, there has rarely existed a period in recent history when so many of us have had so much time alone. How should we present ourselves when prior conventions of appearance, access to professional grooming, and customs of dress and taste no longer apply? What does it mean that working remotely or attending classes online now allows colleagues and strangers glimpses into our private spaces? With public life all but ended, how do we look when there is no one to see us? These and other questions will be examined throughout this six week course in which we will study and discuss self-portraiture through online presentations, lectures, discussions, and individual meetings. Students will be given a weekly self-portrait assignment and will complete a separate, small portfolio of self-portraits for a final critique. An assignment will be sent by email one week prior to the first class, due on the first day.
This workshop will be held entirely online.
