WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

In this workshop, Richard Renaldi will guide participants through the development of a long-term photographic project. Students can work on projects at any stage of their development, whether it be an ongoing series or something specific to the class.

During each session, we will discuss the ideas and practices behind fostering a photographic project. Students will be required to participate in a dialogue that is self-critical and encourages reflection. Richard will make suggestions and provide tools to help build a strong and lasting photographic body of work.

There will be an examination of both renowned and lesser known photographic projects, as well as a deliberation regarding the "why" and inspiration behind the themes in each of the students' work. Participants in this workshop will also be asked to remark upon and develop an opinion about their fellow students’ work.

Richard will present his photographs and share his broad experience working on numerous long-term bodies of work, like Billions Served, Manhattan Sunday, I Want Your Love, Fall River Boys, and Touching Strangers, among others.

During the workshop, we will welcome Special Guest Bryan Schutmaat who will present his work followed by a Q&A discussion.

This workshop will be taught online via Zoom.
