WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
A great dialogue proves that one plus one equals more than two. When an informed curator and historian connects with an experienced photographer to explore image-making, the combination sparks insights that wouldn’t emerge when either speaks independently. Participants in this series of conversations will gain insights on contemporary photography directly from exchanges between dedicated professionals. Your questions will also guide us as we open up the practice and principles of photography today. Each session will include time for the photographer to present work, leading to discussion with George, and into further directions suggested by your questions.
Our first session will set in motion many themes that will flow through the subsequent sessions. Andy Adams will join George for a free-ranging exchange about contemporary photography and the media tools available to artists in the 21st century.
The remaining classes feature well-known and highly respected photographers from the last forty years. As participants in the workshop you will have access to these artists in a unique context; the talks will not be recorded (unless at a photographer’s request) and the dialogue is unlikely to be reconstructed in other forums. Conversations like these can never be the same twice.

George Slade is a photography historian, curator, consultant and writer.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The workshop is designed to appeal to photographers and others seeking inspiration and insights about contemporary photography. Those who will most benefit from it are experienced individuals seeking deeper understandings and appreciation for the nuances of photographic communication. This is not explicitly a "how to" workshop, though some will learn from paths the artists have taken to achieve their work.

We are offering one full Scholarship for this workshop for a young photographer 21-32 years old facing financial hardship.
