Daniel Milnor

Dan Milnor began printing his work in 1988 and started creating hand-made books in 1995, using the technology available at the time. In 2010, he published his first MagCloud magazine, Manifesto (88 pages), which sold out at 100 copies. Since then, he has self-published hundreds of titles—ranging from award-winning works to experimental projects—using materials that span from hand-made books and modified journals to contemporary self-publishing platforms. Milnor is a strong advocate for the creative power of participation in today’s global culture.
Driven by a passion for exploring the diversity of book forms, Milnor has collaborated with various organizations interested in the book as a creative installation, presenting his work in multiple venues worldwide. To foster understanding through dialogue and the arts, Milnor and Rick Elder co-founded the magazine AG23, an ongoing project that can be viewed online at www.ag23mag.com.
Milnor has delivered hundreds of lectures and bookmaking workshops across Canada, the Americas, Europe, and Australia. He has also taught photography at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. His photographic works are part of the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the George Eastman Museum in Rochester, and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
A former documentary photographer, Milnor now focuses primarily on self-initiated photography and book projects. He currently serves as the “Creative Evangelist” for Blurb, Inc., and lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
