Douglas Marshall

Douglas Marshall is the owner and director of Marshall Gallery in Santa Monica, California, which he established in 2018. The gallery promotes the work of emerging and mid-career artists who engage in process-driven, photo-based practices, with a strong emphasis on printmaking craftsmanship and conceptual innovation. Its mission is to expand the dialogue around photography’s evolving role in contemporary art and its power to shape collective memory.
Before founding his own gallery, Marshall served as Director of the Peter Fetterman Gallery from 2012 to 2017, where he organized nearly sixty exhibitions and international art fair presentations featuring renowned photographers such as Sebastião Salgado, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Michael Kenna, and Steve McCurry, among many others.
Marshall’s curatorial interests now center on emerging artists whose photographic projects intersect with other media—such as video, installation, sculpture, and digital art—and on those who use photography to tell compelling, original human stories.
